Dr Rajalakshmi Menon, a scientist, who contributed in direction of the indigenous Airborne Early Warning and Management system, inducted into the Indian Air Power, is among the many 4 excellent scientists and engineers chosen for the “Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award” of the IISC for 2020. These annual awards recognise distinctive contributions made by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) alumni/ae to their career, society and the Institute, it mentioned in a launch.

The nominations acquired are evaluated by a committee appointed by the Director of IISc, it mentioned. Together with Dr Ok Rajalakshmi Menon, this years awardees embrace Prof B S Murty, Prof Sethuraman Panchanathan and Dr Keshab Panda.

“The awardees are extremely achieved people who’ve made distinctive contributions to their fields and to society… We’re honoured to confer this award upon them in recognition of their achievements,” IISc Director Prof Govindan Rangarajan mentioned. Rajalakshmi Menon is at present an Excellent Scientist and Programme Director of the Intelligence, Surveillance, Concentrating on and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) programme of the DRDO.

She graduated from IISc with MSc (Engg) and PhD levels in Aerospace Engineering in 1994 and 2002 respectively. One other alumnus chosen is Prof BS Murty, who’s at present the Director of the Indian Institute of Know-how in Hyderabad.

He has been recognised for his exemplary contributions to the fields of excessive entropy alloys, non-equilibrium processing of supplies by mechanical alloying, and bulk metallic glasses. Additionally chosen are Prof Sethuraman Panchanathan, who’s at present the Director of the Nationwide Science Basis (NSF), US, for his pioneering contributions to analysis on human-centred computing options benefiting people with disabilities.

Dr Keshab Panda, who’s at present the CEO & MD of L&T Know-how Providers Ltd, for his contributions to engineering R&D, particularly for steering the expansion of engineering companies companies corresponding to Satyam and L&T. IISc mentioned its legacy has been the profitable coaching of technology after technology of vibrant younger scientists and engineers, who’ve gone on to make their mark internationally.
