Jigsaw puzzles have turn into such a favourite pandemic pastime, retailers are having a tough time preserving them in inventory. “There is a international scarcity of puzzles truly,” says Brian Approach, co-owner of the web retailer Puzzle Warehouse. “There’s not a manufacturing facility on the planet that isn’t months behind on manufacturing.”

Puzzle Huddle designs and licenses paintings within the U.S. and the puzzles are manufactured in China. Goins says they began seeing delays again in January earlier than the pandemic hit the U.S. However he says manufacturing is steadily coming again. “None of our factories returned at full capability, able to crank out no matter merchandise we would have liked on the drop of a dime. Manufacturing puzzles shouldn’t be so simple as it may appear, explains Brian Approach.

Skilling says SunsOut sells puzzles to about 3,000 mid-sized retailers. They design or license the paintings, determine on the piece rely for every puzzle and rent contractors to do the printing and die-cutting.

“While you’re speaking with the shopper, I believe generally they suppose that Santa and his elves make puzzles and simply drop them on the doorstep,” she laughs. “Actually, it’s factories full of large, large machines.”

With the pandemic disrupting her provide chain, Skilling says SunsOut determined to purchase three of these large die-cutting machines. Finally, she says, they will be capable of manufacture about half of the puzzles they promote in-house.
