WARREN — Leonard M. “Murph” Murphy, 85, handed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020, at Shepherd of the Valley – Howland.

He was born June 8, 1935, in Cleveland, the son of Bernard and Bernadette Murphy.

He was a 1953 graduate of Cleveland Benedictine, attended John Carroll College for 2 years, then went and served our nation within the U.S. Military, the place he was a member of the Military Band.

He continued his schooling on the Catholic College of America in Washington, D.C., incomes a bachelor’s diploma in schooling. He retired from Peerless Electrical as assistant supervisor of stock management after 28 years. After retiring, he labored at St. James Parish for 10 years, doing numerous assignments. Leonard was within the Youngstown Space Neighborhood Live performance Band, the place he performed clarinet, and was the longest and oldest energetic member. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish (St. James Church) in Warren, the place he was a Eucharistic minister, lector and grownup server. He loved studying and was an avid Cleveland and OSU sports activities fan.

Leonard is survived by his spouse, Gloria Murphy, whom he married April 13, 1991; three kids, Martin Murphy of Boulder, Colo., Maureen (Chris) Murphy-Strouth of Columbia Hts., Minn. and Brian Murphy of Florence, Ky.; two stepchildren, Neal (Christine) Scott of Manassas, Va. and Keith (Mira) Scott of Ypsilanti, Mich.; 4 grandchildren, Justin, Jaeden, Logan and Spencer; a brother, Tim Murphy of San Jose, Calif.; and a sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Hugh) Kerr of North Royalton.

He was preceded in loss of life by his mother and father; a brother, Bernard M. Murphy; and three sisters, Sr. Marilyn Murphy OSU, Patricia O’Connor and Cathleen Bregitzer.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, non-public calling hours have been held at Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel and a personal service at St. James Church.

Burial can be in All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta.

In lieu of flowers, contributions could also be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 2532 Burton St. SE, Warren, OH 44484.
