Former Shasta College Athletic Director Joe Golenor was credited with helping advance the Knights' athletics program by creating more women's teams.

Former Shasta Faculty tennis coach Jim Middleton remembered how nervous he was when he walked into Joe Golenor’s workplace for his job interview.

Golenor had risen from being head baseball coach and an assistant soccer coach to the athletic director. He was recognized for giving alternatives to younger and hungry coaches throughout his tenure with the college.

It was the mid-Nineteen Seventies and Middleton was a younger man who had simply earned his grasp’s diploma and was seeking to make a optimistic impression in Redding.

“I used to be fortunate that I bought the job of my goals,” stated Middleton, who started his profession at Shasta Faculty when he was 23. “I bear in mind going into the workplace and Joe advised me they wanted a coach and all of the (tennis) courses had been full. I bear in mind Joe was an important one that all the time had a smile on his face and he made you are feeling good.”
