Two Thanet companies are amongst the finalists for the Kent Life foods and drinks awards 2020.
Garfield’s Vegan Meals Firm, primarily based in Margate, is shortlisted for meals producer of the yr and Hogman household butchers in St Peter’s is battling for the butcher of the yr award.
Garfield’s is owned by Donna Garfield who studied at college for a level in meals and diet and in 1996 arrange enterprise in London.
She then bought the enterprise and spent two years dwelling within the South of France instructing English and cooking with native produce.
Now a Margate resident, Donna says her passions are for “wholesome consuming, animal welfare and the surroundings.”
These are the driving forces behind the vegan meals firm which might be increasing to incorporate supply service to Whitstable and Deal from November.
Finalists Hogman butchers is predicated in St Peter’s and is a household enterprise run by brothers Steven and Mark.
They supply highest quality contemporary meats for buyers and catering prospects reminiscent of pubs, colleges and eating places together with Ramsgate’s Little Ships. The St Peter’s store opened in 2018.
Speaking to Kent Life Steven mentioned: “Each my brother and myself are very proud to be within the finals. We owe all of this to a fantastic prospects who come to our store all weathers to purchase there meat and have a chat.
“We’re a household run butchers with nice employees, and we all the time pull collectively as a group to maintain our prospects pleased always.
“We all the time go the additional mile in each our store and our catering unit in Manston. With out our prospects we don’t have a dwelling, so we thanks all for supporting us.”
The second spherical of judging is now underway with winners being introduced in January.
